IV Hydration & Electrolytes Therapy
At our naturopathic wellness clinic serving Hamilton and the surrounding area, IV hydration and electrolyte therapy delivers fluids and key minerals directly into the bloodstream for rapid restoration of balance. This approach is especially useful when oral intake is limited, absorption is compromised, or faster replenishment is clinically appropriate.
What Is IV Hydration and Electrolyte Therapy?
Intravenous (IV) therapy involves the controlled administration of sterile fluids (typically saline or balanced solutions such as Ringer’s) along with electrolytes and selected nutrients through a vein. In Ontario, qualified naturopathic doctors who have met the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO) Standards of Practice for Prescribing and for Intravenous Infusion Therapy (IVIT) may provide this service—but only in premises that have been registered and inspected under CONO’s IVIT Inspection Program.
Common components may include:
- Fluids for volume restoration
- Electrolytes such as magnesium, potassium (within regulated dosage limits), calcium, and sodium/chloride
- Supportive nutrients when indicated and authorized under Table 2 of the General Regulation
Formulas are individualized after assessment rather than offered as fixed “menus.”
Potential Benefits
IV delivery bypasses the digestive tract, allowing efficient uptake. It is most clearly helpful in situations involving:
From illness (vomiting, diarrhea), heat exposure, intense exercise, or travel.
Contributing to fatigue, muscle cramps, spasms, or post-physical recovery needs.
Support during periods of elevated demand or when oral rehydration is difficult.
Many patients report feeling more restored after treatment. While wellness marketing often emphasizes broad energy or immunity claims, the strongest rationale remains clinical rehydration and targeted electrolyte support under proper medical oversight. Dr. Morais, ND will discuss realistic expectations based on your individual assessment and recent lab work.
What to Expect
A thorough health review, including medical history, current medications, and relevant labs (commonly kidney function/eGFR, electrolytes, and other markers as indicated). Certain high-dose nutrients may require additional screening (e.g., G6PD status).
Formulation is tailored to your needs and prepared under aseptic conditions.
Insertion of an IV catheter by a trained practitioner in a regulated clinical setting, followed by monitored infusion. Sessions typically last 90-120 minutes depending on the formula and volume.
Monitoring during and after the infusion, with guidance on aftercare and whether additional sessions or complementary naturopathic support would be helpful.
Treatments are provided only in-clinic at inspected premises—not as mobile or at-home services—in accordance with Ontario requirements.
Is This Right for You?
IV hydration and electrolyte therapy can be a useful tool within a broader naturopathic plan focused on root-cause assessment, nutrition, lifestyle, and other modalities. It is not a substitute for addressing underlying issues or for emergency medical care.
If you are in Hamilton or the surrounding region and are interested in exploring whether this therapy is appropriate for your health goals, we invite you to book a consultation. We will review your history, discuss options, and determine next steps together—always prioritizing safety, informed consent, and individualized care.
