IV Alpha-Lipoic Acid Therapy
At our naturopathic clinic in Hamilton, intravenous (IV) alpha-lipoic acid is offered as a supportive nutrient therapy when clinically appropriate.
Alpha-lipoic acid is a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in energy production within cells and acts as an antioxidant. It is unique in that it is both water- and fat-soluble, allowing it to function in different parts of the cell. The body produces small amounts of alpha-lipoic acid, and it is also found in certain foods.
Why IV Delivery?
When taken by mouth, alpha-lipoic acid has limited absorption. Delivering it intravenously allows higher levels to reach the bloodstream more efficiently. This route is used when additional nutritional support with this compound is being considered as part of an individualized plan.
How It May Be Used
IV alpha-lipoic acid is typically considered in situations where antioxidant and cellular energy support may be helpful. It is always provided after a thorough health assessment to determine whether it is suitable for the individual.
As with all IV therapies at our clinic, treatment is customized. Dosing follows the limits set out in the College of Naturopaths of Ontario regulations, and the formula is prepared under sterile conditions in an inspected premises.
