IV Glutathione Therapy
At our naturopathic wellness clinic serving Hamilton and the surrounding area, intravenous (IV) glutathione therapy delivers this key antioxidant directly into the bloodstream. Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide (made from the amino acids cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid) that plays a central role in the body’s antioxidant defence system and supports phase II detoxification pathways in the liver.
What Is IV Glutathione Therapy?
Your body produces glutathione continuously, but levels can decline with age, chronic stress, illness, poor diet, environmental exposures, and certain medical conditions. Oral glutathione has limited bioavailability because much of it is broken down in the digestive tract. IV administration bypasses digestion and provides higher circulating levels for more immediate cellular availability.
In Ontario, glutathione is an authorized substance listed in Table 2 of the General Regulation. Only naturopathic doctors who have met the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO) Standards of Practice for Prescribing and for Intravenous Infusion Therapy (IVIT) may administer it—and only in premises registered and inspected under CONO’s IVIT Inspection Program.
Potential Supportive Roles
IV glutathione is used clinically to support:
Bolstering total antioxidant capacity and reducing systemic oxidative stress.
Supporting liver detoxification pathways through conjugation and antioxidant recycling.
Maintaining cellular integrity during higher physical demands or environmental exposures.
Restoring balanced redox states as part of an individualized recovery or wellness plan.
Many patients seek it for antioxidant and detoxification support. While it is commonly included in integrative protocols, high-quality evidence for broad wellness claims (such as guaranteed energy boosts, skin brightening, or disease treatment) remains limited. Dr. Morais, ND will discuss realistic expectations based on your individual assessment, labs, and clinical picture.
What to Expect
A full health review, medical history, current medications/supplements, and relevant laboratory work (often including liver and kidney function). This ensures the therapy is appropriate and safe for you.
Dose and frequency are tailored. Glutathione is frequently given as a short infusion and is often administered separately from high-dose vitamin C.
Performed in a regulated clinical setting under sterile technique with continuous monitoring. Sessions typically take 30–45 minutes depending on dose and method.
Aftercare guidance and discussion of whether additional sessions or complementary naturopathic strategies would be beneficial.
Is This Right for You?
IV glutathione can be a useful supportive tool within a comprehensive naturopathic approach that also addresses nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, and underlying factors. It is not a stand-alone cure or a substitute for medical care when indicated.
If you live in Hamilton or the surrounding region and would like to explore whether IV glutathione therapy aligns with your health goals, we welcome you to book a consultation. We will review your history together, discuss options transparently, and determine the most appropriate next steps—always with safety and your individual needs at the center of your care.
